Blake Prewitt

Superintendent

Blake is currently Newaygo County RESA Superintendent, formerly was Superintendent in Lakeview (Battle Creek) and Ferndale. Throughout his career he has been involved in the social emotional and mental health of children. He is a licensed professional counselor and has served as a counselor at the middle school and high school level. During his time in Ferndale his team developed a K-12 social emotional curriculum and tiered intervention program. While in Lakeview he teamed with Starr Commonwealth, Battle Creek Community Foundation, Grace Health, Summit Pointe (community mental health), and Bronson Hospital to develop a program that addressed the medical and mental health of students. This involved hiring a Director of Resiliency and Resiliency Coaches in all buildings. Now Blake is working on how to implement this work on a county level with Starr Commonwealth

Student Wellness: The Positive Impact of School Connectedness

This session will focus on student wellness - specifically how fostering connection and creating a sense of belonging can profoundly positively impact our students’ wellbeing. The participants will leave with specific strategies that can be applied district wide. Research from APA, CDC, and ASCD will be presented that states school connectedness is a significant factor in reducing anxiety, depression, suicide, substance abuse and violence as well as being a protective factor for all students.
