Derek Cooley

MAASE President and Special Education Director

Derek Cooley began his career as a middle-level teacher for students with behavioral disorders. Derek has held administrative positions including special education supervisor, center-based principal, and director of special education. Currently, Derek is the director of special education at Godwin Heights Public Schools within Kent ISD. Derek has a Bachelor’s degree in special education from CMU, a Master’s in Educational Leadership from GVSU, and a Doctorate in Special Education from WMU. Derek teaches as an adjunct professor at GVSU and Capella University. Derek is the current president of MAASE.
