Jennifer Saylor
For over twenty years, Jen Saylor has been grateful to bring her student-centered and equity-driven beliefs and practices to school and district communities. Originally from northeast Ohio, Jen began her career as a Visual Art and Reading teacher for children in Chicago Public Schools, and continued on a rewarding path of instructional coaching, curriculum writing, school administration, and district leadership. Jen brought her passion for adult learning and professional growth to the Grand Rapids Public Schools in 2014, where she developed induction programming and served as the district’s Director of Professional Learning. As the Assistant Superintendent for the Muskegon Heights Public School Academy System, Jen led instructional programming that prioritized students’ cultural wealth, identities, brilliance, and joy. Most recently, Jen joined the Michigan Department of Education as an Assistant Director for the Office of Educational Supports and is excited to continue her commitment to students, families, colleagues, and fellow educators. Dedicated to continuing her own learning to know better and do better, Jen graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Ohio University, achieved and renewed National Board Certification, received a Masters degree through the New Leaders principal preparation program in partnership with National Louis University, and is currently a Doctoral student pursuing educational leadership studies at Eastern Michigan University.
