Tom Livezey
Superintendent
Tom Livezey has been the superintendent of Oakridge Public Schools in Muskegon, Michigan since 2009. He has also served as an assistant superintendent and curriculum director in his current district and an assistant principal, instruction and technology specialist, and teacher at Godwin Heights Public Schools in Wyoming, Michigan. He has served as an adjunct professor at Grand Valley State University and consulted with nearly 100 K-12 schools nation-wide on how to utilize data from learning information systems to improve learning. The Wyoming Jaycees named him Outstanding Young Educator of the Year in 2001 and he was awarded the MASA Winner’s Circle Award in 2010. Oakridge Lower Elementary was recognized as a “Beating the Odds” school in 2010 by the Michigan Department of Education while Oakridge Public Schools was identified as 1 of 8 “Lighthouse Districts” by Renaissance Learning, Inc. Oakridge High School has been recognized with a Bronze Badge by US News & World Reports in their Best High School rankings and identified as a “Reward School” by the Michigan Department of Education for growth in student achievement.
He received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Olivet Nazarene University and a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Michigan State University. He earned a “Specialty Endorsement in the Superintendency” on his Michigan Administrator Certificate. He has testified to the Michigan Legislature and State Board of Education of Michigan on school safety and wellness and has spoken at the National Conference of State Legislators, National Conference on Accelerating Learning and Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning on topics such as Response to Intervention, Learning Information Systems, Curriculum and Instruction, and Virtual Educational Partnerships. Tom currently serves as board president of the School-Community Health Alliance of Michigan which is a non-profit whose mission is to advocate for school based health services and health centers. He facilitated the process to obtain funding to construct and operate a School Based Health Center in his current district which furthers their efforts on implementing their Whole Child Model within the Oakridge Wellness Network of community partners. He is a Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators (MASA) Region 3 past-president, served 10 years as the chair of the MASA Professional Growth and Leadership Committee, and currently serves on the Executive Board of MASA. He is also serves as an ex-officio board member on a non-profit organization called Hand2Hand whose mission is to feed good insecure homes on the weekend. He is the chair of Education Advocates of West Michigan legislative advocacy group of superintendents representing Muskegon, Ottawa, and Kent Counties. He also serves on the Great Lakes Comprehensive Center Advisory Board guiding the Michigan Department of Education on new policies and programs.
