Dr. Nick Ceglarek
Superintendent
Dr. Nicholas Ceglarek, Ed.D., has been the superintendent of Northwest Education Services (formerly Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District) since 2018. Prior to his current position, Dr. Ceglarek was superintendent of Hudsonville Public Schools (2009-2018), Fruitport Community Schools (2004-2009) and Baldwin Community Schools (2002-2004), and has held several leadership roles in public education. Dr. Ceglarek studied mathematics, statistics and psychology at Grand Valley State University, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education in 1996. That year, he began his career in education as a mathematics and AP calculus teacher at Rockford Public Schools, where he was later appointed to be assistant principal and director of District Assessment and Student Testing. While at Rockford Public Schools, he graduated from Grand Valley State University with a master’s degree in Educational Leadership (1999) and later received his Doctor of Education degree from Eastern Michigan University (2014). Dr. Ceglarek has served as Region 2 president for the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators (MASA), co-chair of the Great Start Collaborative of Traverse Bay, and as co-chair of the Northwest Michigan Community Development Coalition. He proudly serves on the boards of Munson System Healthcare, and HPS, a nonprofit group purchasing organization. He is also a founding board member of Hand2Hand, a nonprofit program that provides food to kids facing weekend hunger. In 2021, Dr. Ceglarek received the Distinguished Alumni Award from GVSU, where he has also served as an adjunct professor for more than 20 years, teaching educational leadership and special education courses. He was West Michigan Public Relations Society of America’s 2015 Communicator of the Year, and was inducted in the Allendale Hall of Fame in 2013. As superintendent at Northwest Education Services, Dr. Ceglarek has championed strategic planning processes to engage staff members and local school districts in continuous improvement models and developing the region as a model of educational excellence where students of all abilities and backgrounds can thrive. Dr. Ceglarek resides in Traverse City with his wife, Darcy. The couple has two sons, Colson and Zane, who attend universities.
