Today more than ever, superintendents understand the critical importance of engaging the broader public in a meaningful way to support the success of the school district and the community it serves. Many have employed the Future Search process to create a community-wide conversation that results in a shared vision for the district – addressing the evolving needs of the students and the community. Intentional outcomes differ by district, but the impact is similar: Energized and engaged citizens who have a stake in the success of the district and a willingness to work together to honor the shared vision, values, and priorities. Benefits are many. The resulting clarity of focus sets the Board on a path to an effective governance role with the superintendent, gives administration defined purpose and actions, and supports organizational alignment with the things that matter most.
