Jessica E. McNamara joined Thrun Law Firm in 2017. Jessie graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies from the University of Michigan in 2012. Upon graduation, Jessie taught 3rd and 4th grade in American Samoa. In 2017, Jessie graduated magna cum laude from Michigan State University College of Law. During law school, Jessie clerked for the firm and was a teaching assistant for Research, Writing, and Analysis, a first-year law school class.
Jessie is admitted to practice law in Michigan. She is a member of the National and Michigan Councils of School Attorneys, the Michigan Bar Association, the Ingham County Bar Association, and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan. Her practice focuses on general education law, special education law, and labor and employment law.
Jessie resides in Grand Ledge with her husband and dog. Originally from Grayling, MI, Jessie enjoys spending as much time as possible Up North on Lake Margrethe fishing and boating. She also enjoys sneaking away to warmer parts of the world where she can hone her scuba diving skills. Jessie is a true football fan and honestly believes that this is the year the Lions will make it to the Super Bowl.

When does a student statement rise to the level of a “threat” and when is it protected speech? Are there special education issues to consider? This session will help administrators understand state and federal law and case precedent related to analyzing and responding to student threats both on and off-campus.
