Tipping the Scale: Space & Student Voice Drives Innovative Pedagogy [Teaching & Learning]

24 January
Time:  3:00 pm - 4:15 pm
Location:  LaSalle A (Level 5)

Rockford Public Schools’ Creative Teaching and Learning Center (CTLC) mimics the world of work. Designed using the SCALE-UP (Student-Centered Active Learning Environment with Upside-down Pedagogies) instruction model for higher education, this innovative center puts students at the heart of the curriculum. Beyond changing the physical environment of the classroom, SCALE-UP also challenges educators to change how they deliver the curriculum and encourages students to get more involved in their own learning. We will share how the district approached curriculum changes in this space and the impact on students who use the center.
